In the Land of Dragon

The land of China has always fascinated me with several tales of magic and magicians. And at the same time it has created a sort of fear in my mind with the stories of iron curtains created by the communist government. However for the last two decades, China has changed a lot in its approach to the rest of the world as well as in its policies and strategies. From a communist country it is on the verge of emerging as a capitalist country with the largest number of millionaires. Now anybody can visit China, without fearing anything. And I have experienced the same in my recent visit to Shanghai.

When we thought about a holiday tour, my wife insisted on going to some unique place where we have not gone so far. The search ended in Shanghai. Being a tourist spot many visitors are coming to this city and almost all major airlines of the region such as Air China, Korean Air etc are operating flights to Shanghai. We searched for the cheapest airline and were lucky to get cheap tickets to Shanghai. Though they are offering cheap airfare tickets, they are not making any compromise on the quality of service.

When we reached there, the airport was heavily crowded and it took almost one for us to come out of the airport after finishing the necessary formalities. There are many historical landmarks in this city and they all have topped in our list of places to be visited. We have gone to The Bund, City God Temple etc in the first few days. Then we went to Shanghai museum and on the same day evening we could watch a cultural event at Shanghai Grand Theater.

Being a main business center, the city has several huge buildings which house the offices of various business organizations. The architecture is a mixed blend of ancient, neo soviet and of modern architecture. Just by roaming on the streets you can enjoy the beauty of these buildings. There are many parks in the city where a number of recreational activities are going on. It was an unforgettable experience to spend the evenings in the parks. The green lawns and the trees will make your mind afresh.

Our next plan was going for shopping. China articles are famous for being cheaper and everywhere in the world you can see shops selling Chinese items. Hence there is no question in going back without shopping. The main shopping center is the “four streets and four cities”. YuYuan Tourist Mart, Xujaihui Shopping city, New Shanghai Shopping city and the Jiali sleepless city are the four cities that are thriving in business activities. You will get everything you need from the shops there. Besides, there are many streets that are functioning as temporary market with a number of wayside vendors assembling there every now and then. Here also the materials are cheaper and there is a good chance for bargaining too.

The tour in the land of Dragon was really a thrilling experience and we were quite satisfied as we got the unique experience as we thought well before planning the tour.
